Our History

In The Beginning

In 1977, Clement C. O'Rourke Jr. opened the doors of O'Rourke & Sons Inc. With only one employee, two trucks, one welding machine, and a victor oxy-acetylene torch, Clem began supplying home builders with steel beams and columns at the foundation level.

The Next Chapter

In the spring of 1978, Michael O'Rourke Sr. joined his father at O'Rourke & Sons as a truck driver. In 1981 Michael bought the company from Clement. At the time, the focus was still on residential, and with a failing economy, few houses were being built. It was time to expand our services.

O'Rourke & Sons moved to 511 S. Bolmar Street in the spring of 1986. While still working with home builders, we expanded into commercial fabrication and erection and hired many new employees. As the company grew, new equipment, tools, and trucks were purchased.

Now

O’Rourke & Sons now has two shops, a fleet of over 40 trucks, and about 70 employees. We supply structural steel for commercial and residential building as well as miscellaneous steel for stairs and railings. With over 40 years in the industry, integrity is our highest priority. We believe our success is owed to hiring the right people. Currently, 46% of our workforce has worked at O'Rourke & Sons for ten years or more. As our family business has expanded, so has our definition of "family."
